1.Introduction

Length: ½ - 1 page max

Content: Six Pager narratives should be self-sufficient. Someone less familiar to grasp the intricacies of your domain or topic. Simplicity and ease of understanding are of key importance in the introduction. 

Tip: I personally find it often easier to write the introduction at the very end after the completion of the remaining sections.

2.Goals

Length: ½ pageContent: In the goal section of the Six Pager, you are outlining what the metrics for success look like. 

Tip: A goal section longer than ½ page might be too verbose and not metric focused enough or you are covering too many topics in the same six pager. 

Tip: It’s okay to define goals in bullet points.

Tip: If it’s challenging for you to define measurable goals, I recommend defining a baseline first. Tip: The key ingredients of your goal definitions are <metric today> <metric in the future> and <by what date>. Example of a goals: Improve Customer Experience: Reduce the customer service ticket requests by 20% from 55 per week (average over the past 12 months) to 44 per week by Jan 1, 2024.

Increase Engagement: Increase the Daily Active Users in the USA by 13.2% from 5.3M as of June 1, 2023 to 6M by Dec 31, 2023.

Improve Customer Experience: Reduce the customer service ticket requests by 20% from 55 per week (average over the past 12 months) to 44 per week by Jan 1, 2024.

3.Tenets 原則

Length: ½ page

Content: The tenet section can be confusing for anyone getting started with Six Pager writing.  Tenets are guiding principles that inform the decision making of a company. They are often inspirational and define north stars. 

Example of tenets:

  • Customer centric: While we will aim for a profitable long term business, we will not sacrifice customer happiness over short term profitability.
  • Reliability: The reliability of our platform will be a key differentiating factor over our competitors.

Content: The state of the business sections provides the reader a detailed snapshot on the current situation. This section can outline how you are structured, how you are executing and how well you are doing against your goals.

5.Lessons Learned

Recommended length: ½ page - 1 page

Content: The Lessons Learned section provides the reader context on what didn’t go so well in either the previous time period (i.e year), previous project, product or circumstances.  

It’s important that you backup your analysis with relevant data and metrics which you can refer to in the appendix section. This section can and should refer to the goals.

Tip: recommend not to polish failures or sweet talk any issues and rather lead with brutal honesty as a guiding principle of this section.

6.Strategic Priorities

Length: 2-3 pages

Content: The Strategic Priorities section is the core part of the six pager document. This section should highlight your previous mentioned goal and provide info on your execution plan to achieve such a goal.

Example:

Increase Engagement by increasing the Daily Active Users in the USA by 13.2% from 5.3M as of June 1, 2023 to 6M by Dec 31, 2023.

-Introducing a Push Notification StrategyThis strategy will leverage user data to send personalized, relevant, and engaging notifications that spur more frequent app usage. We'll segment our user base and curate our messages to target specific user interests, activities, and behaviors, thereby enhancing the notification's relevance. Timing of the notifications will also be crucial; we will use analytics to pinpoint when users are most active and receptive. Furthermore, we will regularly assess the performance of our push notifications, refining our approach based on the responses to ensure the frequency and content are optimized for engagement. This user-centric, data-driven push notification strategy is intended to spur consistent growth in active user numbers, driving us towards our target.

-Re-Designing Signup screenThe new signup screen design will focus on simplicity and user-friendliness, with the aim of minimizing cognitive load and reducing friction during the signup process. We'll employ A/B testing to fine-tune the layout, color scheme, and CTAs, while ensuring the copy is compelling and clearly communicates the benefits of using our app. The signup form itself will only request essential information to avoid overwhelming new users, and we'll incorporate social media single sign-on options for a smoother, faster registration experience. By making the signup process as intuitive and effortless as possible, we aim to increase conversions, encourage more frequent app usage, and ultimately boost our active user count.
